An Individually Managed Account (IMA) is your own private investment portfolio. You beneficially hold the assets in your name and accordingly receive the advantages of holding the assets directly.
IMAs are a discretionary management service whereby clients delegate the day to day investment decisions and implementation of their chosen investment strategy to TAMIM and the managers they partner with while retaining the full beneficial ownership of their investments.
IMAs are ideal investment management structures for private investors, family offices, self-managed superannuation funds (SMSFs), charitable organisations and Private Ancillary Funds.
The TAMIM Individually Managed Account offering includes online account access, formal quarterly reporting, and annual tax reporting.
Benefits of a TAMIM Individually Managed Account
The time and stress associated with properly managing your portfolio is outsourced
Managing an investment portfolio properly (researching, weighting, comparing & following both potential and existing investments) is an extremely time consuming and, at times, stressful endeavour. Why not let someone else deal with it?
Expert portfolio management
You delegate the day-to-day decisions around investment to professional investors. The managers that TAMIM partners with are selected because they are among the best at what they do.
Timing & an incrementally assembled portfolio
An IMA structure allows the manager to capitalise on market movements for you individually. Investing in a managed fund is likely to result in you buying into assets that have already enjoyed most of their returns. When executing investments an IMA manager will attempt to get the best execution and/or exercise discretion over the timing of buys and sells for their investors. IMA investors will receive a portfolio that is assembled incrementally, as attractive opportunities develop, buying quality assets when they are cheap.
Full beneficial ownership of the assets
As you beneficially own the assets you can receive potential capital growth and the potential income that is associated with ownership (franking credits, dividend payments etc.).
Flexibility of tailored & individual investment management
You can place ‘Do not buy’ or ‘Do not sell’ restrictions on certain stocks or sectors to take into account your own ethical considerations or investment ideas.
Portfolio holdings and transaction transparency
You can see the underlying stocks that make up your investment portfolio and with online access you can see what and when a manager is buying on your behalf.
Tax effective investment management
You are taxed only on your individual income and capital gains generated by your holdings. You are not exposed to tax liabilities generated by other investors. There is the ability to tailor the portfolio to your tax circumstances. For instance, you may choose a strategy to place more weight on generating franked dividends for a Self-Managed Super Fund (SMSF), while long-term capital appreciation would be more valuable for a higher marginal tax rate account.
Not being exposed to the actions of other investors
Impulse selling in economic downturn is common and in an IMA structure you are protected from such behaviour. An IMA structure provides the benefits of not being invested in a pooled vehicle and you are therefore not subject to the actions of other investors or the business risk of the investment manager.
Individual reporting & Online Access
Online access for day-to-day updates and individual taxation reports so you can closely monitor your own position.
Safekeeping of assets through an independent custodian
Assets are held by an independent custodian on your behalf.
