In light of the US Election results (or lack thereof) we have pulled some excerpts from a US Election webinar featuring Robert Swift run by Australian Fund Monitors.
Note: The excerpts below were pulled from a webinar recorded on 28 October 2020.
With thanks to Chris Gosselin (CG bleow) and the team at Australian Fund Monitors for hosting.
CG: "Rob, perhaps with your experience in the US and having lived there for fifteen years on a more global basis, do you see a change of President or, as Chris says, control of the Senate, the House , and the White House, that that would make a massive change in overall policy? I mean, I know Trump has been saying that, if Biden gets in, it's a massive lurch to the left. But do you think it really is a lurch to the left and will that affect the market as dramatically as Trump would like to portray?"
CG: "The other thing that I think is worth looking at is America's relationship, whoever is in the White House, with China. That's been quite fractious, certainly over the last ten months since covid broke out..."
CG: "One of the things that's liable to derail equity markets is a surprise increase in interest rates and ten year bonds. Rob, we discussed this previously, there is a movement at that end of the curve. Do you think that's a realistic possibility?"
"If Trump is reelected, what does the world look like?"
CG: "Robert, you were wanting to say something?"
CG (submitted question): "How would you position your portfolio for a Biden win versus a Trump win? I.e. accumulating green assets versus oil assets."
